TAKE OUT
On February 12, we entered the new phase of the moon, which marks the beginning of the Buffalo Year in the Chinese calendar and is the occasion for the Chinese New Year, also called the called "Lunar New Year" or "Spring Festival". This holiday is the first day of the new year on the Chinese calendar. Thailand is a traditional Chinese immigration country. About 7 million Chinese are living in Thailand and build an important part of Thailand’s multiculturalism and ethnicity. Also my background, from my great grandfather’s side, dad’s side are Chinese-Vietnamese decent and from great grandfather’s side, mother’s side we’re Khmer-Laos decent. I was very lucky to grow up in this multicultural family. Very clearly, I can remember how we celebrated the Lunar New Year. The whole day was all about eating and chatting with all the family members, all my uncles, aunties, and their children, and also the neighbors were there with us. Back in the days, my great grandmother ran a restaurant since the beginning of the 1940ies. Everyone had known our family because of her, all the guests became friends, friends became family. The whole street was so vivid, everything was decorated in red and the sound of fireworks was in the air. For the kids it was a joyful time, no school - just playtime and snacking the whole day. Sweets were everywhere. The most waited for was the lion show on the street from the Chinese community. We all were so excited and ran as fast we could to be in the front row of the main road to not miss any part of the show. I felt so at ease and peace and it was like the whole week celebration, a feeling of unity and being beloved from the whole city. I want you to get a glimpse of this wonderful moment of my childhood, a little girl from Ubon, with our very special ZAWAN Journey from Friday to Saturday. Let’s enjoy this heartwarming moment, from the Lunar New Year to Valentine’s Day, being at home with the beloved ones. With love from ZAWAN THE LUNAR LOVE MENU
